HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDED IN THE PRICE

· 11 days trekking in the High Atlas Mountains
· Stay in Berber village homes and sample traditional Moroccan cuisine

Day 1 - Arrive in Marrakech where the first night is spent in a hotel located inside the walls of this ancient imperial city.

Day 2 - In the morning the group leader will take us on a tour of Marrakech by horse-drawn carriage (caleche). Marrakech is a vibrant and fascinating city with its famous square being the focal point of activity. The afternoon is free to explore the markets and alleyways of this unique city.

Day 3 - Leaving Marrakech we drive up into the mountains to Imiourhlad to join our muleteers. After lunch we start our trek into the High Atlas.

Day 4-13 - We trek in North Africa 's greatest mountain range, a historical and physical barrier between the northern plains and the pre-Sahara that is scattered with remote Berber villages and dominated by forbidding peaks.

One of our routes will cross over the Tizi'n Tarharate pass to the summer pastures of the Azib Tifni. As we weave our way through mountains we visit isolated villages where the hospitable Berber people make us welcome. Traversing a desolate wilderness of huge boulders we reach the dramatic once-glacial Lac D'lfni at 2,290 meters.

From the mountain refuge of Neltner, 3,200 meters, we make our ascent of Mt. Toubkal , the highest point in the Atlas at 4,167 maters. While this is not a technical climb it is certainly a challenging experience, for there are large screen fields to be crossed. Having conquered the summit we can marvel at the panoramic views before making our descent.

Day 14 - Leaving the mountains we head down to the plains and Marrakech. In the evening we will enjoy a traditional Moroccan meal and reminisce about our recent achievement.

Day 15 -Our tour ends in Marrakech after breakfast.

The total cost of the safari including land transportation, local air flights which are mentioned in the itinerary, local accommodations in twin rooms are all included.

Day 2 - Today we drive to Rabat , Morocco 's capital and one of the four imperial cities. We will see the Royal Palace and other places of interest on our tour of the old city. The souks (markets) are well worth exploring, as are the Andalusian gardens in the Kasbah des Oudaias.

Day 3 - We drive inland and visit the Islamic holy town of Moulay Idriss .

Day 4 & 5 - A guided tour of the ruined Roman settlement of Volubilis reveals its history before we arrive in the mysterious city of Fez , where minarets rise above Moorish palaces and square white houses. A local guide will show us this fascinating old city with its narrow streets and colorful markets.

Day 6 & 7 - Continuing south we cross the Middle Atlas on our way to Meski Oasis, a fresh spring of cool water on the edge of the vast Sahara Desert . To the south lies Erg Chebbi, an area of beautiful sand dunes. We camp in this remote desert region and have time to climb the dunes and take the opportunity of a camel ride - a true desert experience.

Day 8 & 9 - After visiting the desert towns of Merzouga and Rissani we drive to Todra Gorge, one of the most dramatic sights in Morocco . Here ochre cliffs rise high over the date palms of remote oases, and we can explore the gorge on foot.

Day 10 - Leaving Todra, we divert from the main road over the High Atlas to visit Ait-Benhaddou and Telouet. Ait-Benhaddou has classic mud built kasbahs which are among the most elaborately decorated and best preserved in the Atlas Mountains . The crumbling, yet still impressive, Glaoui Kasbah at Telouet offers us a glimpse into Morocco 's turbulent past.

Day 11 & 12 - At the town of Imlil we set off on our trek to explore the picturesque scenery and colorful villages of the High Atlas, spending the night in a Berber house.

Day 13 - In the imperial city of Marrakech with its palaces, souks and mosques, we go sightseeing by horse-drawn carriage. The medina and Main Square make a particularly exciting visit.
